Cupping Therapy

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy is a type of alternative treatment that increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed on the skin. This helps to reduce pain and muscle tension, improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. This may also promote new connective tissues and blood vessels formation.

Who can benefit from Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy involves a pulling sensation resulting in the suction of delicate cups. This sensation should never cause any pain, if pain is present our physiotherapy will adjust it to your desire. Many believe Cupping Therapy to promote one’s overall well-being, balance and improve the flow of energy, and assist in a faster healing process. As our patients walk out of our clinic feeling relaxed, this special technique is typically performed on patients with the following:

Relieve Tension and Pain from:

  • Back
  • Neck
  • Shoulder
  • Knee, calf, hamstring, quads
  • Arthritis
  • Headaches and Migraine

What does a Cupping Therapy session look like at Physio4Care?

Once entering our clinic, you will be greeted and assessed by our physiotherapist and taken into a calm, quiet room. There the session would begin. This method of altering pain signaling is not an invasive procedure but is quite soothing and relaxing. The physiotherapist will determine what area needs this type of therapy and will begin by placing warm cups on the effected area. Once creating a suction, tell us if this feels comfortable as we will adjust the suction to provide relaxation to our patients. Typically cups will be left on the patient for about 5 minutes to 10 minutes as the physiotherapist will return to remove the cups. You may experience some marks of bruising on your effected area, however, it does not increase pain and will fade away within a few days.
